20th International Conference
on Electronic Publishing
Positioning and Power in Academic Publishing: Players, Agents and Agendas

7–9 June 2016 in Göttingen, Germany
The International Conference on Electronic Publishing (Elpub) reaches its 20th anniversary! Elpub 2016 continues the tradition, and brings together scholars, publishers, lecturers, librarians, developers, entrepreneurs, users and all other stakeholders interested in issues regarding electronic publishing in widely differing contexts.
Elpub 2016 will have a fresh look on the current ecosystem of scholarly publishing including the positioning of stakeholders and distribution of economic, technological and discursive power. Elpub will also open the floor for emerging alternatives in how scholars and citizens interact with scholarly content and what role dissemination and publishing plays in these interactions. Questions to be raised include: What is the core of publishing today? How does agenda setting in emerging frameworks like Open Science function and what is the nature of power of the referring scholarly discourses? How does this relate to the European and world-wide Open Science and Open Innovation agenda of funders and institutions, and how does this look like in publishing practice?
The conference will investigate the position and power of players and agents, - e.g. scholars and their networks, legacy and academia-owned publishers, research institutions and e-infrastructures - as well as their respective agendas. When looking at these interlinked topics, we aim to sharpen the view for current challenges and ways forward to reshape the publishing system. You are most welcome to join us in this exciting discussion!

Let’s put data to use: digital scholarship for the next generation

The International Conference on Electronic Publishing (Elpub) enters its 18th year. We welcome presentations and discussions that demonstrate the role of cultural heritage and service organisations in the creation, accessibility, curation and long term preservation of data. We aim to provide a forum for discussing appraisal, citation and licensing of research data. Also, what is new with reviewing, publishing and editorial technology in a data-centric setting?

3rd International Symposium on Information Management in a Changing World,
September 19-21, 2012, Ankara, Turkey

E-Science and Information Management
(First Call for Papers)

SCOPE

The “3rd International Symposium on Information Management in a Changing World” (or IMCW2012), organized by the Department of Information Management of Hacettepe University, will take place in Ankara, Turkey, from 19-21 September 2012.

“E-Science and Information Management” being the main theme, IMCW2012 aims to bring together both researchers and information professionals to discuss the implications of e-science for information management. “E-Science” is defined as collaborative, networked and data-driven science. Researchers have to get access to large, distributed data sets on, say, global warming or gene sequences, and use a set of tools and technologies for data processing and information visualization. Vast amounts of data need to be collected, curated, stored, managed, and preserved to ensure perpetual access to them over the Internet.

E-Science has implications for both researchers and information professionals such as librarians and data archivists. Both groups need information management and computational skills to deal with massive data sets along with some understanding of intellectual property rights, open access and data literacy issues, among others. Few schools in the US and elsewhere are already offering graduate degrees in “E-Science Librarianship” and one is likely to come across ads of job descriptions for “cloud librarians”.
